Welcome to PubSci

Some call it Sipping, Supping Science, while others prefer Peer Reviewed Drinking — however you think of it, at PubSci you can enjoy excellent science talks with a drink in your hand.

Science in the Pub (AKA PubSci) an independent science outreach event that aims to break down traditional barriers between the public and science/scientists by bringing top quality science talks to a pub meeting room.

We keep our events small-scale because we think everybody deserves to get close to science in a friendly atmosphere – now more than ever in this complex, AI-driven world where misinformation sprouts wings and flies 1,000 miles before a rational truth has wiped the sleep from its eyes.

Our talks cover the gamut of science, technology, engineering, maths, medicine and culture. They’re often listed as Top events happing in London today on IanVisits, we’ve been mentioned in Forbes Magazine, and we still run on a pay-what-you-can basis because everyone deserves access to great science talks. §

In our proudly minimalist website, you’ll find:

  • Our current seasons’s PROGRAMME to view, download or print
  • Our bare-bones EVENTS CALENDAR that you can add to your own calendar
  • Full details of our NEXT EVENT when it’s available for booking*

* The Next Event page isn’t available while we’re preparing the latest event info. If you click the link and draw a blank, please check the calendar page to find out what’s on and whether the booking link is active. We create the event on Eventbrite first, so it’s worth looking there and subscribing to updates.

At PubSci you can enjoy great science talks with a drink in your hand — so, grab your preferred beverage, order a plate of Scampi and Chips, and explore what we’re about. Did I mention the rather excellent blog which has its own RSS feed…? We hope to see you in the Old King’s Head some time soon.

§ We aim to be as accessible as possible but we recognise that holding events in a pub meeting room could limit access for those with mobility issues or religious observances; in our blog we frequently share news of other science events in the area at fully accessible venues such as the Royal Institution.

E&OE We run PubSci in our spare time. Richard puts in 2-3 days worth of work a month preparing and promoting events and maintaining the website and blog whenever he has the time. Sometimes he has other deadlines but we always run 11 events a year, fill the room and leave with smiles. Please keep on keeping science live, accessible and real.
